Description

  • Own core Search metrics and funnels end to end, including guardrails, performance monitoring, and conversion gap diagnosis.
  • Design, run, and interpret experiments across ranking, retrieval, and search UX to produce data-driven recommendations.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Machine Learning to prioritize opportunities and shape the roadmap for search improvements.
  • Build diagnostic analyses by query class, price point, surface, and customer lifecycle to identify performance issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Connect offline model evaluation with online and business metrics to ensure ML changes improve the end-user experience.
  • Improve data quality, instrumentation, and metric definitions for Search to support clearer and faster decision-making.
  • Translate complex, noisy signals into clear insights that influence search conversion, order rate, and GTV.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to strengthen downstream experiences such as ads and retailer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data science or product analytics with impact on consumer-facing products.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including complex joins and window functions, and experience with large-scale datasets in modern data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • Proficiency in Python or R for analysis, experimentation, and modeling.
  • Hands-on experience designing and analyzing A/B tests end to end, including metric selection, power and sample sizing, covariate adjustment, and decision-making under uncertainty.
  • Ability to define success metrics, break down ambiguous product problems, and deliver clear recommendations to Product and Engineering partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Comfort using modern AI tools such as Claude, code assistants, or PromptQL to accelerate analysis, experimentation, and communication while maintaining strong judgment.
  • Experience in search relevance, ranking, recommendations, personalization, or information retrieval is preferred.
  • Familiarity with NLP, embeddings, and semantic search is preferred.
  • Experience bridging offline evaluation metrics such as NDCG, precision/recall, or human evaluation with online experiments and business outcomes is preferred.
  • Background in causal inference beyond standard A/B tests, such as holdouts, diff-in-diff, or quasi-experiments, is preferred.
  • Comfort working across web and native app surfaces and navigating tradeoffs between relevance, monetization, and latency is preferred.
  • Proven impact improving logging, instrumentation, and metric definitions in complex data environments is preferred.

  • Base pay range of $194,000–$204,500 in CA, NY, CT, and NJ.
  • Base pay range of $185,000–$195,500 in WA.
  • Base pay range of $177,000–$187,000 in select states and DC.
  • Base pay range of $161,000–$170,000 in all other states.
