Description

  • Own the technical strategy for an agentic catalog platform that uses distributed systems, data pipelines, and AI/ML automation to ingest, normalize, enrich, and validate product content at scale.
  • Lead and scale a multi-team engineering organization of approximately 40+ total reports, including managers and senior individual contributors.
  • Set team goals, establish operating mechanisms, and develop engineering talent across the organization.
  • Define and meet platform reliability and quality targets, including availability, latency, and accuracy SLAs.
  • Improve on-call practices, incident response, observability, and data-quality guardrails.
  • Partner with Product, Machine Learning, Data Science, Design, Operations, Retail, and Brand teams to prioritize roadmaps and deliver business outcomes.
  • Run experiments and ship features that improve discovery, search relevance, substitution quality, pricing accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive build-versus-buy decisions, vendor selection, and budget stewardship for key platform capabilities.
  • Ensure privacy, security, and brand safety across catalog systems and third-party capabilities.
  • Champion a culture of transparency, inclusion, continuous improvement, and measurable outcomes.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating large-scale platforms or data-intensive systems.
  • 7+ years of experience leading engineering managers and multiple teams, with direct responsibility for organizations of 30+ engineers.
  • Experience delivering large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and microservices.
  • Demonstrated ownership of platform reliability and data quality with defined SLAs/SLOs, on-call practices, and incident management.
  • Track record shipping production systems that leverage ML/AI such as LLMs, information retrieval, content understanding, or automated data enrichment.
  • Experience hiring, coaching, and performance-managing engineering managers and senior engineers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration experience with Product, Data Science/ML, and Operations.
  • Preferred experience with e-commerce catalog systems, product taxonomy/ontology, data normalization, or content quality at marketplace scale.
  • Preferred hands-on familiarity with GenAI and agentic frameworks, vector databases/embeddings, and multimodal models including text, image, and OCR.
  • Preferred background in search/relevance, knowledge graphs, entity resolution, or compliance workflows such as nutrition, allergens, or age-restricted items.
  • Preferred experience leading platforms adopted by 100+ internal users or powering revenue-critical customer experiences.
  • Master’s degree or higher in a related technical field is preferred.
  • Preferred experience managing vendor ecosystems and annual engineering budgets tied to infrastructure and third-party services.
  • Preferred familiarity with experimentation and evaluation frameworks for content quality, including offline/online metrics, A/B testing, and observability for data drift and model performance.

Benefits

  • Highly market-competitive compensation and benefits, with pay determined by work location.
  • Base salary range of $304,000-$321,000 USD in CA, NY, CT, and NJ.
  • Base salary range of $292,000-$308,000 USD in WA.
  • Base salary range of $279,000-$294,500 USD in OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, and HI.
  • Base salary range of $254,000-$268,000 USD in all other states.
  • Remote-friendly Flex First work policy with flexibility to work from home, an office, or another location.
  • Eligibility for a new hire equity grant.
  • Eligibility for annual refresh equity grants.
