Description

  • Lead a high-impact frontend team building and evolving core Marketing Email and SMS management experiences (dashboards, creation flows, send/review UIs, experimentation, and onboarding surfaces).
  • Contribute high-quality React/TypeScript code while guiding architectural decisions, reviewing designs, and unblocking teammates.
  • Own the technical strategy for the team's frontend surface area, including modular architecture, design system usage, and cross-app/library boundaries across Messaging.
  • Partner in the leadership triad with Product Management and Product Design to set goals, sequence work, and make trade-offs balancing customer impact, reliability, and iteration speed.
  • Drive medium-to-large, multi-quarter initiatives end-to-end from problem definition and technical proposals through implementation, rollout, and measurement.
  • Champion reliability and service maturity for frontend applications by defining SLIs/SLOs, improving performance (bundle size, latency), and keeping the app within targets.
  • Mentor and grow engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and 1:1s, providing clear and actionable feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with backend and infrastructure teams to design reliable, observable front-to-back solutions that scale across channels.
  • Define and uphold engineering best practices across testing, accessibility, telemetry, experimentation, and on-call for frontend services.
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding new engineers and represent HubSpot’s values and culture throughout the interview and onboarding process.

Requirements

  • Typically 7+ years of frontend engineering experience building complex, user-facing web applications.
  • Experience with technologies like React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript tooling, ideally at SaaS scale.
  • Proven track record as a technical lead or senior engineer who has led at least 2–3 medium-to-large projects from design through production with measurable customer or business impact.
  • Strong frontend system design and architectural skills, including breaking down ambiguous product problems and designing interfaces and boundaries.
  • Experience leading a small team or pod as a player-coach—setting direction, coordinating work, and contributing meaningfully to the codebase.
  • Strong ownership of reliability and quality, including experience investigating and resolving performance issues, production incidents, and test flakiness.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to engineers and non-engineers and write clear documentation.
  • Customer- and product-oriented mindset with the ability to use data and feedback to inform decisions.
  • Nice to have: experience in marketing technology, messaging, or communications products (email, SMS, WhatsApp, or similar).
  • Nice to have: experience with large-scale, multi-surface products, performance optimization (bundle size, lazy loading, caching), SLO-driven development, experimentation, or AI-powered workflows.
