Description

  • Own multi-state regulatory compliance obligations, including licensing, driver qualification standards, DMV record checks, and state transportation rules.
  • Draft and submit regulatory filings, advice letters, and compliance attestations to state agencies and manage agency review and approvals.
  • Advise internal teams on regulatory requirements for new market entry and ongoing compliance in existing markets.
  • Review revenue contracts and RFPs for regulatory implications such as background checks, reporting obligations, and vehicle or driver standards.
  • Monitor and analyze federal and state legislation affecting transportation network companies, school transportation, and automated decision systems.
  • Develop legal and policy positions on pending legislation and collaborate with Policy and Government Relations on bill analyses, public comments, and engagement strategies.
  • Represent the company in regulatory rulemakings before state public utility commissions and transportation agencies.
  • Manage responses to public records and disclosure requests from state and local agencies.
  • Oversee a portfolio of claims and litigation, including labor and employment matters and select civil cases.
  • Handle subpoenas, service of process, regulatory investigations, and support outside counsel on arbitrations.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in the jurisdiction where you live.
  • 8+ years of legal experience, including at least 5 years in a law firm or in-house role.
  • Primary focus on regulatory and/or governmental affairs with meaningful exposure to litigation or claims management.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI tools consistently in legal work for research, synthesis, analysis, matter management, or related projects.
  • Experience navigating state regulatory agencies, administrative proceedings, or legislative processes.
  • Proven ability to advise cross-functional teams on legislative and regulatory requirements and policy implications.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them to business operations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present to varied audiences and collaborate across teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high-volume, rapidly evolving portfolio with competing deadlines.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment; experience at a rapidly growing company is a plus.
  • Exposure to litigation or claims management, including discovery, court filings, or preparing corporate representatives for testimony, is preferred.
  • Experience in transportation, mobility, gig economy, or similarly regulated industries is preferred.
  • Familiarity with public utilities commissions or transportation and education regulatory frameworks is preferred.
  • Experience advising on automated decision-making, AI governance, or algorithmic compliance is preferred.
  • Background in data privacy (CCPA, HIPAA) or government contracting is preferred.
  • Exposure to multi-state compliance programs or regulatory tracking systems is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools for legal or compliance work, or a strong interest in building AI competency, is preferred.
