Description

  • Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid for reimbursement.
  • Generate and send patient invoices, follow up on outstanding balances, and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility, and obtain required authorizations and referrals before services are rendered.
  • Assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures in accordance with billing guidelines.
  • Record, post, and reconcile payments from insurance companies and patients in the billing system.
  • Investigate, appeal, and resolve denied or rejected claims while identifying root causes to prevent future issues.
  • Communicate with patients about billing inquiries, payment plans, and financial assistance options.
  • Maintain accurate billing records, including claims, payments, and correspondence with patients and insurers.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare billing regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, insurance representatives, and internal colleagues to resolve billing-related issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; medical billing and coding certification is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in medical billing, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance claim processing procedures, and billing software such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, time management, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
  • Ability to analyze billing issues, identify solutions, and implement process improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments to resolve billing-related issues and support organizational goals.
  • Primary internet connection with a minimum speed of 15 Mbps and a backup internet connection of at least 10 Mbps.
  • Desktop or laptop with Intel Core i5 8th generation or newer, Intel Core i3 10th generation or newer, AMD Ryzen 5, or equivalent, plus at least 8 GB RAM.
  • Backup device that meets or exceeds Intel Core i3 performance and can function during power interruptions.
  • Functioning webcam, noise-canceling USB headset, quiet dedicated home office space, and smartphone for communication and verification.
