Description

  • Define performance baselines, including SLIs, SLOs, latency, throughput, error-rate targets, and production-informed workload models.
  • Build shared performance-testing frameworks and production-like Kubernetes and cloud test environments for product teams.
  • Evaluate new performance-testing tools through proofs of concept.
  • Automate performance regression testing in CI/CD pipelines and produce trend reports to identify issues before release.
  • Conduct load, stress, soak, and spike testing and support capacity planning for peak events.
  • Investigate performance bottlenecks across API, database, queue, and frontend layers using traces, metrics, logs, and profiling.
  • Translate performance findings into actionable engineering recommendations and influence technical decisions.
  • Partner with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to resolve performance issues.
  • Mentor junior team members and strengthen performance-engineering practices across the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in performance, scalability, reliability engineering, or testing, including resolving bottlenecks in production-scale systems.
  • Hands-on experience with k6, Gatling, or Locust, including realistic workload modeling and distributed load generation.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java.
  • Experience using observability tools such as New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana, or OpenTelemetry to diagnose API, database, and queue performance issues.
  • Solid understanding of REST service performance, concurrency, caching, distributed systems, microservices, rate limiting, and common performance bottlenecks.
  • Experience integrating performance tests into CI/CD pipelines with pass/fail thresholds.
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes and at least one major cloud platform: GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • Experience with JVM or Node.js runtime profiling, thread or heap analysis, GC behavior, or event-loop lag (preferred).
  • Frontend performance experience with Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse, or real-user monitoring (preferred).
  • Experience with AI-assisted testing tools, NoSQL or search datastores, message brokers, chaos/resilience testing, or safe production testing practices (preferred).
