Description

  • Architect and maintain complex database replication and high-availability environments across distributed SaaS and hybrid-cloud systems.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery strategies that meet RPO and RTO targets, including failover testing and DR exercises.
  • Establish and enforce data retention, archiving, and purging policies aligned with industry and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Implement and support database security controls such as transparent data encryption, role-based access, and unified auditing.
  • Lead performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity management for high-volume transactional workloads.
  • Monitor performance metrics to identify and resolve resource contention and other operational issues.
  • Advise on database modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy systems to cloud-native or containerized architectures.
  • Develop standards for schema design, storage structures, and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Manage a global team of database operators, including shift rotations, on-call coverage, and incident response.
  • Create standard operating procedures and build an Operations-as-Code model using automation tools and CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent applicable experience.
  • 8+ years of database administration experience, including at least 4 years in a Principal or Lead role within an enterprise SaaS environment.
  • 3+ years of direct people management experience leading database operators or site reliability engineers.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, or OCI.
  • Experience with relational database systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server in both cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Redis, Couchbase, MongoDB, or Cassandra in distributed environments.
  • Advanced automation and scripting skills with Python, Bash, Terraform, or Ansible.
  • Proven experience with large-scale data migration and zero-downtime upgrades.
  • Experience leading war rooms during critical outages and coordinating with operations staff and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience defining and reporting operational KPIs such as mean time to resolve, system uptime, and backup success rates.
  • Experience managing distributed or offshore teams in a follow-the-sun support model.
  • Experience analyzing and negotiating license and hosting agreements from a performance and cost perspective.
  • Strong analytical thinking, complex problem-solving, and the ability to communicate technical strategies to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to explore and adopt AI tools responsibly to improve productivity and innovation.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $170,000 to $185,000 per year, plus variable compensation.
