Description

  • Lead reviews of complex code contributions, design proposals, and technical RFCs.
  • Architect, propose, and implement major features, capabilities, algorithms, infrastructure, or full products across the stack.
  • Translate technical designs and constraints into actionable guidance for product managers, programme leads, and customers.
  • Mentor engineers and help scale the technical interviewing pipeline and engineering organization.
  • Share technical knowledge through tech talks, learning groups, and office hours.
  • Maintain and evolve the software stack while diagnosing complex system issues and addressing technical debt.
  • Optimize operational reliability and performance in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design and develop test architectures and benchmarks at both micro and macro levels.
  • Present work in weekly demo sessions and support early feedback and shared understanding.
  • Own projects from zero-to-one prototyping through deployment of resilient software on physical hardware.

Requirements

  • Seasoned senior-to-staff level backend development experience.
  • Expert-level mastery in a systems language such as Rust, Java, Go, or C++.
  • Proven track record of writing highly legible, maintainable, and performance-optimised systems code.
  • Strong systems-level thinking with the ability to design for long-term reliability across heterogeneous systems.
  • Ability to communicate complex architectural decisions clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Extensive experience with pair programming and peer code reviews in a collaborative, low-ego environment.
  • Comfort working asynchronously through robust pull requests, design RFCs, and email discussions.
  • A strong belief that ethical considerations are an inherent part of software engineering.
  • Production-grade Rust and Python experience is preferred.
  • Experience with container-based and cloud-native architectures, metrics and observability tools, SQL and streaming databases, routing protocols, cryptographic protocols, hardware interfaces, robotics, or production ML systems is a plus.
