Description

  • Modify and adapt existing UAV platform mechanical and electrical designs and interfaces to meet U.S. customer needs, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Own subsystems design and contribute to overall platform architecture development and technical decision-making.
  • Conceptualize and design UAV and supporting system hardware configurations through trade studies and analytical assessments.
  • Develop modular solutions using WOSA (Weapons Open Systems Architecture) standards to support interoperability and upgradability.
  • Create electronic architectures, mechanical design concepts, specification designs, and select appropriate components.
  • Produce 3D and 2D documentation using SolidWorks or similar CAD/PLM tools.
  • Integrate COTS/GOTS equipment while managing size, weight, power, and cost constraints.
  • Apply ASME/ISO design and drawing standards, GD&T, and manufacturing considerations to designs.
  • Design for manufacturing and end-user field assembly to create robust, scalable, and cost-effective components.
  • Define and perform validation tests, including electronics troubleshooting and mechanical testing.
  • Create comprehensive design documentation in accordance with company guidelines and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical design for UAV platforms, aerospace systems, or similarly demanding applications.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience with 3D/2D CAD and PLM tools, preferably SolidWorks/PDM or similar platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of modular design principles and experience with WOSA or similar open systems architecture standards.
  • Proven experience integrating COTS/GOTS equipment into complex systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic component integration, preferably using ECAD/MCAD interfaces for component realization.
  • Ability to work independently and own a project from concept through validation.
  • Comfort working in a highly flexible environment.
  • Professional working experience with U.S. defense customers and familiarity with U.S. military specifications and standards is preferred.
  • Experience with UAV design, including airframe structures, propulsion integration, and payload mounting, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of export control regulations such as ITAR and EAR is preferred.
  • Experience with schematic and PCB design for embedded systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with EMC design and validation is preferred.
  • Experience with actuators and sensors used in aerospace or mechatronics applications is preferred.
  • Background in Battery Management Systems and power circuit design is preferred.
  • Experience with environmental testing requirements such as vibration, shock, temperature, and humidity is preferred.
  • Familiarity with FEA for structural and thermal analysis is preferred.
  • Understanding of airworthiness certification processes and safety assessment methodologies is preferred.
