Description

  • Direct multiple AI coding agents in parallel to design, build, test, and ship iOS features in Swift, UIKit, and increasingly SwiftUI.
  • Own a slice of the iOS app end to end, including discovery, scoping, architecture, implementation, QA, release, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Run agent-driven workflows for spec drafting, code generation, test generation, code review, refactoring, documentation, and bug triage.
  • Develop and defend architectural standards for Grove’s iOS codebase and critically review AI-generated output against those standards.
  • Design prompts, evals, and harnesses to make AI-assisted mobile development repeatable and measurable.
  • Build automation and release infrastructure, including Fastlane lanes, CircleCI checks, TestFlight distribution, device test farms, rollback mechanisms, and AI-powered review gates.
  • Drive architecture decisions and prototyping for the UIKit to SwiftUI migration.
  • Collaborate with engineers, PMs, designers, and platform partners to review designs and gather business context before shipping.
  • Monitor production health, triage incidents, and reprioritize work based on Sentry, Datadog, Cloudflare, and Firebase signals.
  • Mentor the contractor team on AI-native workflows and share learnings with other mobile engineers.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of professional iOS development experience with shipped consumer apps at scale.
  • Demonstrable fluency with modern AI coding tools and agentic workflows such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and Codex.
  • Strong experience with Swift, UIKit, and SwiftUI, including leading a UIKit to SwiftUI migration on a real app.
  • Experience working in codebases that use Coordinator/AppController patterns, protocol-driven Services and Data Managers, and value-type ViewModels.
  • Experience integrating with JSON:API-style backends and Shopify storefront/checkout APIs at consumer scale.
  • Bias toward end-to-end ownership, with judgment to pull in other engineers for architecture reviews or business-context checks when needed.
  • Ability to independently read and act on Sentry, Datadog, Firebase, and Cloudflare dashboards without manager prompting.
  • Comfort writing prompts, evals, and guardrails for AI-assisted development.
  • Strong written communication skills for async standups, design reviews, and Slack debugging.
  • Collaborative, low-ego working style.
  • Preferred: experience designing custom agents, MCP tools, or AI-assisted code review pipelines.
  • Preferred: deep experience with Combine, async/await, and modern state management.
  • Preferred: familiarity with CocoaPods, Fastlane, CircleCI, TestFlight automation, and XCTest/snapshot testing pipelines.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Grove-adjacent tools and services including Shopify, Heap, Braze, AppsFlyer, Sentry, Rivo, and Constructor.io.
  • Preferred: experience with the Anchorage layout library or similar code-first UIKit layout systems.
  • Preferred: subscription or e-commerce mobile experience, including selling plans, recurring orders, cart-sidecar contracts, and out-of-stock handling at scale.
  • Preferred: exposure to feature flags, experimentation platforms, and analytics instrumentation.
  • Preferred: experience helping a team shift toward AI-native development practices.
