Description

  • Lead and carry out commissioning of utility-scale solar farms from initial testing through grid connection and handover.
  • Manage commissioning plans, schedules, and documentation to meet project and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform testing and configuration of protection relays, including fault analysis, settings verification, and final approval with the DNO.
  • Commission and operate HV and LV switchgear, including circuit breaker operation and CT/VT value checks.
  • Execute G99 and G100 testing to ensure compliance with grid code requirements.
  • Support and review electrical designs and contribute to design modifications or improvements where needed.
  • Liaise with ICPs, DNOs, and grid operators to coordinate testing and approvals.
  • Verify the operation of SCADA, metering, and communication systems during commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate commissioning records, settings files, and test reports.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and relevant standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience commissioning utility-scale solar PV or large renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of HV systems up to 132kV, including protection, control, and switching operations.
  • Experience with grid connection processes and working with DNOs and ICPs.
  • Hands-on experience with protection relay configuration and testing, such as Micom, Siemens, ABB, Schneider, or similar.
  • Solid working knowledge of G99/G100 compliance testing.
  • Familiarity with electrical design principles, single-line diagrams, and grid/electrical studies.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Degree or HND in Electrical or Power Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Recognised HV operational authorisation at SAP or AP level is desirable.
  • Certified experience or training in protection relay testing and configuration, with ECS/CSCS and HV/LV authorisations as appropriate for site work.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Must be based in Ireland to perform the role.
