Description

  • Drive technical strategy and roadmap by defining architectural vision and prioritizing work that unlocks major product or platform improvements.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of large, cross-functional projects, owning planning, design, execution, rollout, and long-term operation.
  • Own architecture, reliability, performance and cost for critical systems, making pragmatic tradeoffs for scalability, availability, latency and maintainability.
  • Define SLOs/SLIs and lead incident response, including running high-severity incidents, blameless post-mortems, and driving systemic fixes and automation.
  • Improve observability, automation and operational readiness through telemetry, alerting, runbooks, capacity planning and automation to reduce toil and lower MTTR.
  • Align stakeholders and remove blockers by coordinating across Product, Design and other teams to negotiate tradeoffs and unblock delivery.
  • Mentor and grow engineering talent by coaching senior and mid-level engineers, leading design reviews, and raising engineering standards.
  • Represent engineering internally and externally by communicating technical strategy to non-engineering stakeholders and participating in cross-team planning.

Requirements

  • Eligible to work/from one of the following countries: UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland, or Sweden.
  • Proven track record delivering and operating large distributed systems that span multiple teams with demonstrable technical leadership and impact.
  • Deep systems-design instincts with strong understanding of tradeoffs around latency, consistency, availability, scaling and cost.
  • Hands-on cloud and platform experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, containers/Kubernetes and infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Experience owning reliability and performance: defining SLOs/SLIs, capacity planning, performance tuning and end-to-end reliability work.
  • Excellent coding and design skills; experience writing clear, maintainable, well-tested code (Go preferred; Python/C/C++/Rust or similar are applicable).
  • Comfort and practical experience with AI-assisted development and integrating AI-powered developer tools into team workflows.
  • Familiarity with messaging/streaming systems (e.g., Kafka) and observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana or equivalents).
  • Strong communicator with ability to influence without authority and align cross-functional stakeholders in a remote-first environment.

  • Base salary range in the UK: £100,000 - £121,000 (country-specific ranges apply).
  • Equity and potential bonus (where applicable) in addition to base compensation.
