Description

  • Lead backend architecture and system design for critical customer-facing features.
  • Own the backend roadmap and drive technical decisions for team initiatives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional delivery with engineering, product, and design partners.
  • Optimize existing systems for performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Serve as the team’s technical anchor by setting engineering standards, leading design reviews, and unblocking teammates.
  • Manage large-scope technical problems from planning through delivery of stable, well-tested features.
  • Make technical recommendations that improve the codebase while minimizing risk.
  • Identify, fix, and ideally prevent bugs and performance bottlenecks.
  • Leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development velocity for the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with deep backend or distributed systems expertise.
  • Proven experience leading a team to execute and ship features.
  • Strong proficiency in Go, Python, Ruby, or similar backend languages/frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling distributed systems that handle real-world traffic at scale.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Codex, or Copilot.
  • A T-shaped engineer or generalist mindset with deep expertise in at least one domain such as API design, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or infrastructure.
  • A proactive ownership mentality and comfort operating without detailed direction.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, handle conflict constructively, and build consensus across teams.
  • Familiarity with modern web services and cloud-native architecture tradeoffs and design patterns.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Frontend experience with React, TypeScript, iOS, Android, or similar is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ecommerce applications is preferred.
