Description

  • Define and execute a multi-year strategy for the data platform, including certified datasets, clean schema architecture, and AI-ready infrastructure.
  • Lead the transition from analyst-dependent reporting to AI-powered self-service analytics for business stakeholders.
  • Oversee the architecture and evolution of data engineering foundations to support scalable, reliable data consumption.
  • Drive analytics engineering practices to create governed, well-documented, reusable data models and a single source of truth.
  • Build expertise in GitLab's consumption and usage-based business model to support Revenue, Finance, and Product analytics needs.
  • Establish enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, including data quality standards, access policies, lineage documentation, and accountability structures.
  • Partner with executive leaders across Sales, Finance, Product, and People to translate business questions into scalable data solutions.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a distributed team across data platform, analytics engineering, governance, and analyst functions.
  • Foster an async-first culture and set clear expectations for a proactive, strategic, business-aligned team.
  • Stay current on data tooling, AI agents, and emerging analytics applications to improve data maturity and consumption at scale.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of progressive data leadership experience.
  • 5+ years managing multi-functional data teams at high-growth SaaS companies.
  • Deep expertise in modern data platform architecture, including database schemas, certified datasets, and AI-ready data infrastructure.
  • Proven track record leading self-service analytics transformation and reducing analyst bottlenecks.
  • Strong understanding of consumption and usage-based business models, including usage tracking and metered billing.
  • Experience leading analytics engineering functions, including dbt, semantic layers, or similar approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence C-level and VP-level stakeholders across Sales, Finance, Product, and People.
  • Track record of developing and retaining high-performing distributed teams in fully remote, async-first environments.
  • Strategic thinker with a differentiated point of view on data and AI trends and the technical depth to evaluate new approaches.
  • Interest from candidates with varying levels of experience is welcome, even if they do not meet every qualification.
