Description

  • Lead complex backend deliverables from problem definition through implementation and release.
  • Design systems to ingest, store, index, and query security report data.
  • Develop vulnerability and dependency management integrations with third-party systems.
  • Build and improve Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL systems, contributing to Go or Rust services where appropriate.
  • Shape technical plans, decompose complex work, and support other engineers' delivery.
  • Partner with product, design, frontend, and engineering teams to make technical and product decisions.
  • Influence the product and technical roadmap through investigation, proposals, and iterative monthly releases.
  • Apply security considerations to the handling of malicious and vulnerable software packages.
  • Define modular-service patterns and provide technical leadership across GitLab Security.

Requirements

  • Experience leading complex backend projects from concept through delivery while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including query and table optimization and write-ahead log management in data-intensive systems.
  • Strong professional experience with Ruby on Rails or Go, with comfort working in Ruby on Rails daily.
  • Experience with large monoliths and interest in working across languages and services (preferred).
  • Experience shaping delivery plans, guiding technical decisions, and supporting other engineers.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners and clearly communicate technical trade-offs.
  • Experience communicating with leaders, guiding peers through complex delivery, and resolving constraints.
  • Experience using security tooling for vulnerability triage and remediation, or building vulnerability, dependency management, or related security products.
  • Experience with large-scale data systems or established software products; transferable experience outside security is welcome.
  • Fluency using AI tools to improve delivery while applying sound engineering judgment.
