Description

  • Participate in architectural discussions and technical decisions for Git and Gitaly.
  • Contribute features, bug fixes, and performance improvements to upstream Git.
  • Adapt Gitaly to take advantage of new and existing Git capabilities.
  • Align upstream Git discussions and contributions with GitLab product and platform needs.
  • Scope tasks, estimate effort, and document implementation plans for technical work.
  • Test and validate built features and integrations to ensure correctness and reliability.
  • Collaborate with team members, contributors, and the broader Git ecosystem.
  • Represent GitLab constructively in open source community discussions.

Requirements

  • Experience building instrumented, observable software systems.
  • Knowledge of Git internals, including its code and data structures, or experience operating Git servers.
  • Experience writing and testing production-quality code in C.
  • Experience contributing to open source projects such as Git or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with Go for backend development.
  • Understanding of Linux internals, including processes, memory management, input/output, and filesystems.
  • Interest or experience in large-scale or distributed systems, storage formats, graph theory, or highly available production environments.
  • Transferable backend or infrastructure experience is considered relevant.
  • Experience working effectively in public collaboration spaces.
  • Candidates with varying levels of experience are welcome; not every requirement must be met.
