Description

  • Define GitLab’s technical vision and roadmap for autonomous, agentic SDLC capabilities.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities across planning, coding, testing, security, compliance, releases, and operations.
  • Lead hands-on experiments and prototypes for autonomous merge requests, test creation, security remediation, release readiness, and incident response.
  • Design reference architectures with orchestration, safety guardrails, observability, and human-in-the-loop controls.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks and measure correctness, latency, safety, cost, cycle time, MTTR, and merge-request throughput.
  • Own internal pathfinder use cases through adoption and measurable productivity improvements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, Data and ML, Security, Compliance, Reliability, and SRE teams.
  • Codify reusable patterns, libraries, playbooks, design documents, and architecture decisions.
  • Translate proven internal capabilities into secure, reliable customer-facing product features.
  • Mentor senior engineers and represent GitLab in industry, standards, and open-source communities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in a Staff, Principal, or equivalent technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in AI/ML systems, large language models, agentic frameworks, and autonomous workflows at production scale.
  • Experience leading technical experimentation, benchmarks, evaluation frameworks, and architecture decisions.
  • Strong background in scalable, multi-tenant distributed systems, fault tolerance, observability, and operational resilience.
  • Experience implementing human-in-the-loop controls, safety guardrails, and responsible AI practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to align Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, and Data and ML teams on ambiguous technical challenges.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority.
  • Excellent written and asynchronous communication skills in a fully remote, globally distributed organization.
  • Familiarity with GitLab’s DevSecOps platform, CI/CD primitives, and software development lifecycle preferred.
