Description

  • Own data platform architecture across ingestion patterns, warehouse design, environment strategy, orchestration, access governance, and reliability standards.
  • Define freshness strategies and decide when data should refresh in real time, near real time, daily, or ad hoc.
  • Make pragmatic decisions between streaming and batch approaches based on business value, cost, complexity, and operational burden.
  • Design and implement source ingestion pipelines using batch, incremental, API-based, file-based, CDC, and streaming methods.
  • Own pipeline reliability, including dependencies, retries, alerts, backfills, incident response, runbooks, monitoring, and support expectations.
  • Lead new source onboarding from requirements gathering through profiling, ingestion design, QA, documentation, and support handoff.
  • Help retire brittle legacy reporting and duplicate pipeline workflows.
  • Own Snowflake operations, including roles, permissions, service accounts, connector ownership, environment separation, performance, cost, and governance.
  • Define and enforce data contracts, including schema-change handling, upstream SLAs, source defects, and escalation paths.
  • Implement data quality and observability checks for freshness, volume movement, nulls, duplicates, reconciliation, anomalies, and business rules.
  • Use AI and automation to improve debugging, documentation, pipeline scaffolding, testing, monitoring, and operational workflows.

Requirements

  • Deep data engineering experience designing, building, and operating production data platforms.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Python, SQL, deployment scripts, and production debugging.
  • Strong knowledge of ingestion fundamentals, including APIs, CDC, backfills, idempotency, schema drift, and failure recovery.
  • Strong Snowflake fluency, including warehouse design, RBAC, performance tuning, and cost controls.
  • Experience with data quality practices and making issues visible before users find them.
  • Ability to work independently, sequence ambiguous work, and communicate clearly through design docs and stakeholder alignment.
  • Ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes and carry problems through resolution.
  • Active use of LLMs and agents to accelerate engineering work without outsourcing judgment.
  • Experience in lending, fintech, or financial-services data is preferred.
  • Experience with CDC, Debezium, Fivetran, Airbyte, Azure Data Factory, dbt Cloud, Dagster, Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent tooling is preferred.
  • Experience with Snowflake performance tuning, RBAC, data sharing, warehouse cost optimization, or Iceberg is preferred.
  • Experience with data observability tools such as Monte Carlo, Elementary, dbt tests, custom monitors, or similar is preferred.
  • Experience defining data contracts, source SLAs, or schema-change processes with Engineering teams is preferred.
  • Experience with AI-native analytics, semantic layers, MCP servers, agent QA, or governed context retrieval is preferred.
  • Experience building lightweight internal tools, scripts, or agents to reduce repetitive platform work is preferred.
