Description

Own the technical direction and architecture of the product end-to-end, from infrastructure and data models through to the frontend experience.
Design, review, and ship production-quality code alongside the engineering team (hands-on ~60–70% initially).
Lead AI product delivery, scoping and building LLM-based functionality such as RAG pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and agent workflows.
Translate business goals into a technical roadmap and incremental delivery plans, making tradeoffs and sequencing work with the founders.
Maintain security, infrastructure, and compliance obligations (SOC2) and sign off on releases, including responsibility for AWS environment, CI/CD pipelines, and identity infrastructure (e.g., Google SSO).
Coach, unblock, and raise the bar for a small engineering team; set standards for code quality, review practices, and delivery cadence.
Drive hiring, team structure, and ways of working as the engineering organisation scales.
Debug production issues, ensure infrastructure reliability, and be accountable for operational delivery and system stability.

Requirements

Proven experience building and shipping software with responsibility for system-wide technical decisions (staff engineer/tech lead/CTO-level judgement).
Comfort reasoning across the full stack and with modern MVC frameworks; ability to make pragmatic technology decisions without needing prior experience with every specific tool.
Hands-on experience shipping AI-powered features in production and familiarity with LLM toolchains, RAG, evaluation frameworks, or agent workflows.
Active use of AI-assisted development workflows and expectations that the team will adopt them as throughput multipliers.
Experience owning security, compliance, or SOC2-related responsibilities (SOC2 experience is a plus).
Experience working in or with regulated/clinical software environments is highly regarded.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders.
Willingness and ability to work remotely anywhere within Australia or from the Richmond, Victoria office; ready to be hands-on in the codebase during the early phase.
