Description

  • Identify, prioritize, and shape cross-cutting initiatives including platform modernization, authentication, dependency health, and security.
  • Lead and develop a team of Staff Engineers, including hiring, assigning priorities, and coaching technical leadership.
  • Define scope, timelines, ownership, risks, and intended outcomes for shared technical initiatives.
  • Partner with engineering managers, product leads, and R&D leaders to sequence work within squad capacity and balance technical, security, and product priorities.
  • Evaluate technical tradeoffs and support teams in making sound decisions on cross-cutting work.
  • Lead Ellevation’s security practice, embedding security ownership, escalation paths, and threat modeling into engineering workflows.
  • Coordinate security activities with Curriculum Associates, including incident response, vendor risk, security awareness, district questionnaires, penetration tests, and compliance evidence.
  • Manage Ellevation’s relationship with Curriculum Associates’ central security organization, including standards, SLAs, KPIs, scanning configuration, reporting, and weekly remediation updates.
  • Represent Ellevation in Curriculum Associates security forums and translate relevant decisions into actionable work for Ellevation.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams.
  • Experience hiring, leading, and developing senior and Staff-level engineers.
  • Track record of delivering large, ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives such as platform modernization, legacy migrations, or authentication work.
  • Strong technical foundation in modern web applications, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD.
  • Security experience across application security, cloud security, compliance, and incident response.
  • Hands-on experience with SAST, SCA, and dependency-scanning tools.
  • Experience influencing decisions in a matrixed organization, ideally across a central function and business unit.
  • Ability to communicate technical and security risks to executive audiences.
  • Experience building software that handles sensitive or regulated data, such as education, healthcare, or financial services (preferred).
