Description

  • Lead the Product Design function and serve as a member of the R&D Leadership team.
  • Set design strategy and direction in partnership with Product and Engineering as the company evolves into an integrated platform.
  • Manage and develop a team of product designers across four product domains, including hiring for open roles.
  • Strengthen collaboration across product, design, and engineering from upstream shaping through downstream delivery.
  • Ensure designers participate meaningfully in shaping, betting, and cycle planning processes.
  • Partner with the Principal Product Designer to assess craft quality, systems thinking, AI fluency, and Backpack adoption.
  • Build high-trust relationships with R&D and commercial leaders and influence decisions across the organization.
  • Coach designers, give candid feedback, and raise the team’s standard for craft and execution.
  • Support recruiting efforts by sourcing talent and building a resilient, high-performing design team.
  • Work with leadership to calibrate performance, resource allocation, and healthy cross-functional operating patterns.

Requirements

  • 8+ years managing Product Designers, with experience building resilient teams and developing leaders.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain design decisions and trade-offs to non-design stakeholders.
  • A track record of raising the bar on craft through clear standards, feedback, and hands-on design judgment.
  • Bias toward action and a willingness to test ideas, iterate, and make decisions based on outcomes.
  • AI fluency, including the ability to build LLM-assisted workflows and teach others to use them.
  • Ability to design with empathy for users with different perspectives and bring diverse viewpoints into the process.
  • Boston-area preferred, with in-person presence in Boston required at least 10 times per year for monthly two-day onsite meetings.
  • Nice-to-have: enterprise SaaS background delivering for both decision-makers and end users.
  • Nice-to-have: experience conducting user research directly and bringing the team along.
  • Nice-to-have: systems thinking and experience creating coherent cross-workflow experiences rather than isolated features.

  • Competitive base salary of $170,000 to $220,000, plus annual performance-based raise and bonus.
