Description

  • Contribute full-time to the Elasticsearch codebase by designing, implementing, and shipping data-intensive features and fixing bugs.
  • Research, select, and implement appropriate data structures and algorithms to support new functionality and performance goals.
  • Implement custom data structures or low-level optimizations when required, including work close to the operating system and hardware.
  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team of engineers and with UI and solutions teams to ensure coherent APIs and a good user experience.
  • Act as an area expert, improving and owning parts of the codebase and serving as a point of contact for questions and reviews.
  • Triaging, reviewing, and handling community issues and pull requests, and handing them off to other experts when appropriate.
  • Write idiomatic modern Java and participate in code review, consensus-driven design decisions, and incremental improvements.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in core Java, including familiarity with the standard library of data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer features like lambdas.
  • Experience with software systems engineering and building production-grade systems.
  • A strong desire and track record of optimizing for efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and to guide projects from technical design through delivery.
  • Comfortable developing collaboratively and giving/receiving feedback on code, approaches, and APIs, including asynchronous remote collaboration.
  • Experience using multiple data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra and understanding how they work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for distributed, remote teamwork.
  • Preferred: prior experience building with Elasticsearch, working in search/information retrieval, building data analytics capabilities, leading cross-functional initiatives, and contributing to open source projects with CI/source control workflows.

  • Base salary range: $133,100—$210,600 USD (alternate range for select locations: $159,900—$252,900 USD).
