Description

  • Contribute to large-scale projects evolving Elasticsearch’s core infrastructure.
  • Design and implement horizontally scalable features and APIs.
  • Develop automation and integrate agentic applications into developer workflows.
  • Investigate and resolve performance, concurrency, stability, and operational issues end-to-end.
  • Improve the operation and observability of Elasticsearch cloud systems.
  • Lead cross-team projects and collaborate with Elasticsearch engineers, users, and open-source projects.
  • Support support engineers with complex technical issues.
  • Own projects from technical design through delivery and coordinate required components across teams.

Requirements

  • Strong Java skills, including concurrency, parallelism, classloaders, standard data structures, and newer language features.
  • Experience designing APIs and evaluating technical tradeoffs.
  • Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems and practices, such as Buildkite, Argo CD, or GitOps.
  • Experience leading large-scale projects across engineering teams.
  • Ability to work autonomously, drive decisions, and communicate effectively in a distributed team.
  • Demonstrated use of AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning outcomes.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of JDK internals, the Java memory model, garbage collection, caching, or database load.
  • Preferred: Experience with observability and telemetry tools, especially OpenTelemetry; Go; containers; Kubernetes; or Java build tools such as Gradle or Maven.
  • Preferred: Experience working on platform or developer productivity teams.

  • Base salary of €67,000–€106,000 EUR with no variable compensation component.
