Description

  • Serve as the internal subject-matter expert for cheminformatics, bioinformatics, and scientific data.
  • Own strategy for acquiring, representing, integrating, normalizing, and maintaining scientific data.
  • Define chemical entity representation, registration, standardization, resolution, curation standards, vocabularies, QA rules, and tooling.
  • Develop approaches for extracting and linking structured information from scientific literature, patents, text, tables, and chemical structures.
  • Lead scientific semantics, entity resolution, and ontology strategies across compounds, targets, genes, diseases, organizations, assays, and related concepts.
  • Evaluate scientific data sources for coverage, quality, overlap, limitations, licensing, and update characteristics.
  • Establish standards and processes for data quality, provenance, validation, completeness, freshness, and issue resolution.
  • Partner with Science, Engineering, and Product Management on data models, architecture, requirements, specifications, and technical trade-offs.
  • Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions for scientific datasets, informatics capabilities, and data tooling.
  • Lead, hire, mentor, and manage the Data team while translating priorities into executable projects.

Requirements

  • PhD in cheminformatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, structural biology, or a related quantitative life-science field.
  • 10+ years of experience working with scientific data in drug discovery, biotech, or life-science data and informatics companies.
  • 3+ years of experience leading people or a data function.
  • Working knowledge of cheminformatics, including molecular representations, structure standardization, substructure and similarity searches, and RDKit or similar tools.
  • Deep knowledge of biological databases and ontologies, target and pathway biology, and gene/protein identifier mapping.
  • Strong data modeling skills and hands-on proficiency in Python, SQL, data pipelines, and modern data tooling.
  • Understanding of the drug discovery process from target to clinic.
  • Ability to communicate fluently with medicinal chemists, biologists, engineers, and product teams.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to translate scientific details into engineering and product trade-offs.
