Description

  • Design, develop, and maintain production Rust applications, including backend services, APIs, and system-level components.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries for performance and correctness at scale.
  • Debug and troubleshoot production Rust applications, including memory safety issues, concurrency bugs, and performance regressions.
  • Contribute to frontend development in React when needed, including integration with micro frontend architectures.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of microservice and distributed system architectures.
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end test suites.
  • Deploy, monitor, and maintain services in containerized Kubernetes environments.
  • Implement and maintain observability and alerting for mission-critical distributed systems.
  • Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Mentor junior engineers on Rust best practices and systems design.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience creating and managing Rust applications in production environments.
  • Strong command of Rust ownership, lifetimes, traits, and error handling.
  • Experience with the async Rust ecosystem (Tokio, async-std, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency with Rust web frameworks and libraries such as Actix, Axum, or Warp.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug production Rust issues, including panics, memory issues, deadlocks, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Strong backend/system engineering experience in a production setting; not a prototyping or research role.
  • Experience designing APIs, background workers, data pipelines, or backend services at scale.
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, indexing strategy, and query plan analysis.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL in production.
  • Experience writing and maintaining unit, integration, and ideally property-based or fuzz tests.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and production deployment workflows.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized environments.
  • Experience with observability and alerting tools such as OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Prometheus, or Grafana.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, product managers, and leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to mentor junior engineers through code review, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.

  • Up to $87 hourly compensation.
  • Fixed-term W2 contract.
  • Contracts reviewed quarterly and likely to extend.
