Description

  • Manage and develop a team of data engineers and analysts through regular 1:1s, feedback, career development, and hiring decisions.
  • Set the technical direction for the data function and guide choices between expedient and sustainable implementation approaches.
  • Own prioritization of the team’s work by evaluating incoming requests against strategic value and protecting capacity for longer-term investments.
  • Partner with the Data Product Manager to align on priorities, sequencing, and the division of ownership between the data team and product.
  • Drive recurring manual processes toward automation and recover capacity for higher-value work.
  • Support client-facing needs by translating client requirements into data requirements and representing the data function in client-adjacent conversations.
  • Help the team structure analyses well and produce outputs that inform decisions.
  • Shape the evolution of the data platform and the team’s analytical capabilities together.
  • Review and improve work across data engineering and analytics to ensure it is built sustainably.

Requirements

  • Experience managing people, including hiring, developing, giving difficult feedback, and making tough calls.
  • Background spanning both data engineering and analytics.
  • Familiarity with dbt, SQL, warehouse modeling, and pipeline orchestration.
  • Ability to evaluate the quality and structure of analyses and make sound technical judgments.
  • Strong prioritization judgment with the ability to decide what matters most, what can wait, and what should stop.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across product, operations, and client-facing teams.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and building your own understanding in a new role.
  • Experience managing distributed or remote teams across time zones (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Terraform, GitHub Actions, or Looker (preferred).
  • Background in consulting or client-facing data work (preferred).
  • Must be based in Latin America or Canada and able to work hours compatible with Eastern Standard Time.
