Description

  • Drive the design and implementation of highly scalable, highly available distributed SaaS solutions.
  • Lead technical direction on critical components and advise on architectural decisions.
  • Work with architects, team leads, and engineers to implement solutions across the stack.
  • Mentor and train other software engineers on development best practices.
  • Research and recommend technologies that improve scalability, maintainability, and quality.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for solution designs.
  • Drive quality by building end-to-end tests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to advance technology and deliver product work.
  • Participate in product discussions and influence the roadmap.
  • Work with DevOps to resolve application-related infrastructure issues when needed.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in backend engineering, including 2+ years in a Staff or Senior Staff role.
  • Strong experience with Ruby on Rails and ability to ramp up quickly.
  • Experience with both front-end and back-end technologies simultaneously is preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed systems, database design, and API architecture.
  • Experience with queuing systems such as Resque, caching, and search indexing tools.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and optimization of build, test, and deployment workflows.
  • Experience working in Kubernetes-based environments and with cloud infrastructure such as AWS.
  • Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
  • Experience evolving and improving large codebases and scaling systems for performance.
  • Familiarity with observability, monitoring, alerting, debugging workflows, incident management, and postmortem culture.
  • Ability to work effectively with remote Engineering and Product teams across North America.
