Description

  • Design, build, and maintain OpenBao core capabilities, plugins, storage backends, and secrets engines in Go.
  • Partner with the Head of OpenBao Development on system architecture, technical RFCs, and engineering roadmaps.
  • Develop custom secrets engines and authentication methods.
  • Apply secure-by-design principles, cryptography best practices, and safe memory management; review and remediate vulnerability reports.
  • Participate in upstream open-source development by reviewing pull requests and triaging issues.
  • Build internal R&D projects, security tooling, and integration prototypes for identity and secrets management.
  • Write unit, integration, and security tests for Go codebase changes.
  • Collaborate on CI/CD automation, release workflows, and supply-chain security for OpenBao distribution artifacts.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of backend systems development experience at intermediate or senior level.
  • Production-grade Go experience, including concurrency with goroutines and channels, interface design, testing, and performance profiling.
  • Understanding of software security fundamentals, including PKI/TLS, cryptography, authentication and authorization models, and API design.
  • Ability to work hours that align with a global team across the USA, New Zealand, and the UK.
  • Candidates based in ControlPlane's existing regions in Europe, North America, or APAC are preferred.
  • Experience with the OpenBao or HashiCorp Vault codebase, including plugins, storage drivers, dynamic secrets, or internal RPC mechanisms, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or OpenTofu is preferred.
  • Previous contributions to open-source Go projects or security tooling are preferred.
  • Strong work ethic, learning mindset, emotional maturity, respect for others, and commitment to an inclusive team culture.
