Description

  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team across web and mobile that powers Coinbase’s retail trading experience.
  • Own the technical roadmap for cross-asset trading systems, unified account infrastructure, and regulatory integrations.
  • Translate product vision into technical delivery and execute against business priorities in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and senior leadership to align on goals, priorities, and execution.
  • Coach, develop, and retain direct reports while helping hire exceptional engineers in partnership with Recruiting.
  • Make architectural decisions and drive engineering excellence in code quality, reliability, performance, and operational health.
  • Ensure the team meets engineering SLAs and maintains production systems with low latency and high availability.
  • Participate in design reviews and code reviews, and dive deep across the stack to unblock the team when needed.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, including significant experience building and operating distributed systems at web scale.
  • 2+ years of engineering management experience with a track record of building, coaching, and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining production services that evolve over time, including systems handling real money, low latency, and high availability.
  • Strong technical judgment with the ability to balance long-term strategy and short-term execution.
  • Proven ability to partner cross-functionally with Product and Design and turn ambiguous goals into clear technical plans.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted distributed systems at scale.
  • Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots such as LibreChat, Gemini, and Glean in daily workflows, with human-in-the-loop practices.
  • Experience building trading platforms, brokerage systems, or financial products at scale, ideally in equities, crypto, or multi-asset environments (preferred).
  • Familiarity with equities market structure, settlement systems such as T+1/T+2, or brokerage infrastructure (preferred).
  • Experience launching new business lines or products from 0 to 1 at a public company or high-growth startup (preferred).

  • Annual base salary range of $218,025 to $256,500 USD, depending on work location.
