Description

  • Serve as interim CFO, finance director, or controller and provide day-to-day leadership for finance department staff.
  • Oversee accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis, and daily financial operations for higher education clients.
  • Develop and improve financial policies, programs, and procedures, and prepare financial statements, forecasts, and analyses.
  • Provide oversight, direction, guidance, and coordination for current finance projects and priorities.
  • Assess the efficiency of finance department operations and recommend process improvements.
  • Consult with higher education clients on finance challenges and operational issues.
  • Help align policy, process, procedures, and personnel to better leverage finance ERP systems.
  • Support general accounting, grants, purchasing, fixed assets, and disbursement functions as needed.
  • Partner with campus leaders and external auditors to review processes and implement improvements.
  • Prepare and review reconciliations, interim reports, and financial statements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in higher education finance, accounting, or business office leadership.
  • Prior experience as a Controller, CFO, or Director of Finance is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with higher education ERP systems such as Banner, Colleague, Workday, or Jenzabar.
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting, grants management, accounts payable/accounts receivable, tax reporting, and compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Previous consulting experience is a plus but not required.
  • Comfort with remote, project-based independent contractor work with variable hours and assignment length.
  • Willingness to travel for limited on-site campus engagements when needed.
