Description

  • Own the architecture, technical direction, coding patterns, and technical-debt roadmap for the Shopify/Liquid storefront.
  • Lead and mentor internal web developers through PR reviews, coding guidelines, technical planning, and hands-on coaching.
  • Build features, solve complex tickets, and prototype new technical approaches within the codebase.
  • Manage technical relationships with agency and platform partners, including scoping work, setting quality expectations, and reviewing deliverables.
  • Evaluate Shopify platform developments and drive adoption of capabilities that reduce unnecessary custom solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and data teams on APIs, services, authentication, analytics, and event tracking across the storefront and broader stack.
  • Partner with product management to shape product direction, estimate effort, and assess technical feasibility and risk.
  • Work with e-commerce, marketing, design, data, and backend engineering teams on launches, promotions, A/B tests, tracking, and pixels.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of web development experience, including substantial Shopify/Liquid experience.
  • Experience with Recharge or another major Shopify partner.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, including owning architecture, setting standards, reviewing code, and developing other engineers.
  • Strong HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of Shopify theme architecture, apps, metafields, metaobjects, Liquid edge cases, and platform limitations.
  • Understanding of advanced Shopify capabilities, including app proxies, applications, checkout extensions, and webhooks.
  • Experience directing external agency partners and maintaining quality standards across external deliverables.
  • Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to non-engineering stakeholders and collaborate in agile, cross-functional teams.
  • Subscription or DTC e-commerce experience, particularly with Recharge or a comparable platform (preferred).
  • Experience with web performance, accessibility, experimentation tools such as Optimizely, e-commerce analytics, or Shopify Plus capabilities such as Functions, checkout extensibility, and Hydrogen/headless (preferred).

  • $140,000–$160,000 base salary plus an annual performance bonus.
