Description

  • Extend ontologies and knowledge graph schemas for claims, evidence, argument structures, defeaters, and confidence.
  • Implement defeasible argumentation frameworks such as ASPIC+, Dung-style systems, and argumentation schemes.
  • Operate and quality-control LLM-driven population pipelines using cross-check scaffolds, provenance tracking, and human-in-the-loop curation.
  • Architect agent coordination patterns for multi-step research and data-population tasks with robust error handling and graceful degradation.
  • Pre-harden argument structures by identifying the strongest counterarguments, steel-manned objections, and known defeaters.
  • Build export pipelines that convert structured arguments into formats suitable for different audiences and communication channels.
  • Maintain current awareness of AI safety, capabilities, and governance developments so the graph can be updated when needed.
  • Collaborate with communications staff and researchers to ensure outputs meet persuasive and informational needs.

Requirements

  • Working familiarity with formal or semi-formal argumentation theory, including abstract or structured argumentation, defeasible reasoning, dialectical models, or argumentation schemes.
  • Experience with ontology engineering or knowledge graph development using OWL/RDF, property graphs, or equivalent tools.
  • Operational experience with LLM agent systems, including agent coordination platforms, prompt engineering at scale, and quality-control regimes for LLM outputs.
  • Fluent vibecoding practice, with rapid prototyping and shipping using LLM-assisted development in production-adjacent contexts.
  • Substantive grounding in AI safety, AI governance, and current frontier-AI dynamics, with the ability to locate authoritative sources on any sub-topic.
  • Familiarity with philosophy of science concepts relevant to evidence, such as defeaters, burden of proof, inference to the best explanation, and underdetermination.
  • Good coding skills and comfort with graph databases or query languages.
  • Experience designing cross-check and verification scaffolds for unreliable automated processes.
  • Sound judgment about when a claim is well-supported versus when it needs hedging, further substantiation, or withdrawal.
  • Self-directed with strong written communication skills.
  • Graduate work or equivalent depth in argumentation theory, computational argumentation, epistemology, or philosophy of science is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AIF, Carneades, or comparable computational argumentation tools is preferred.
  • Track record in AI safety or governance, including publications, policy work, or substantive community contributions, is preferred.
  • Background in argument mining, claim extraction, or stance detection is preferred.
  • Experience with debate formats or structured deliberation methods is preferred.
  • Understanding of motivated reasoning, belief change, and cognitive biases as they relate to communications strategy is preferred.
  • Open-source contributions in any relevant area are preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. as an employee; candidates outside the U.S. would be engaged as independent contractors, and visa sponsorship is not available.

Benefits

  • $160,000 - $210,000 a year salary.
  • 100% remote work with occasional travel.
  • Full-time, contract role.
  • Equal Opportunity Employer commitment and inclusive hiring practices.
