Description

  • Help set technical direction for the ControlCheck team across front-end, back-end, and infrastructure work.
  • Contribute to critical architectural decisions for services built on Ruby on Rails and Python FastAPI.
  • Drive proactive decoupling of services and apply sound microservices patterns as the platform scales.
  • Identify and resolve the hardest technical problems through expert-level debugging across distributed systems and complex applications.
  • Lead cross-team dependency management and coordinate efforts with Product, QA, and adjacent engineering teams.
  • Communicate system design, technical tradeoffs, roadmap items, and planning considerations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor senior engineers and serve as an escalation point for the team’s most difficult technical challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance across the broader engineering organization and help shape hiring signal and technical roadmap.
  • Elevate the team’s collective technical execution and help multiply overall team output.
  • Maintain a service-oriented approach that helps improve the work of others on the team.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of professional software engineering experience with depth across the full stack.
  • Specialization in one or more areas such as front-end, back-end, or infrastructure, with working knowledge across the rest of the stack.
  • Track record of contributing to technical direction and delivering multi-month, cross-domain initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, especially MySQL, with experience designing for scale.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, specifically Terraform, and owning production services end to end.
  • Ability to influence architectural decisions across multiple teams and shape long-term technical direction.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining complex systems and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership style rooted in service, collaboration, and team-level impact rather than individual output alone.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and building technical judgment in others.
  • Comfort co-leading technical direction alongside other senior technical leaders.
  • Database administration experience, preferably with AWS Aurora MySQL, is a plus.
  • Experience integrating Electronic Health Record data into enterprise software is a plus.
  • Experience in a regulated, compliance-driven healthcare or controlled-substance domain is a plus.
  • Experience applying AI and LLMs, preferably in the AWS ecosystem such as AWS Bedrock, is a plus.
