Description

  • Design, implement, and maintain software for BlackSky’s mission management services.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and team planning discussions.
  • Test, debug, and document implemented software functionality.
  • Identify requirements issues, technical limitations, and inconsistencies early and communicate them proactively.
  • Collaborate with mission planning, ground software, and platform engineers to execute autonomous constellation operations products.
  • Support operational tasks to maintain production stability and ongoing constellation operations.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and troubleshoot live system issues as needed.
  • Support launch and early operations for new satellites.
  • Develop production code in Python and Go as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or higher degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or another computational field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant software development experience.
  • Fluency in Python and strong understanding of Go, with comfort using other languages when necessary.
  • Expert knowledge of software design, maintenance, and implementation, including data structures, data storage and retrieval, algorithm efficiency, and scalable maintainable code.
  • Demonstrated initiative to identify and solve problems or inefficiencies.
  • Strong team and cross-team cooperation and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong audience awareness.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent independent activities.
  • US citizenship may be required for some programs.
  • Preferred: familiarity with satellite fundamentals such as orbital mechanics, attitude dynamics, and satellite systems.
  • Preferred: expertise in software and hardware performance characteristics.
  • Preferred: experience automating complex systems such as satellites, vehicle fleets, or drones.
  • Preferred: knowledge of geospatial systems or data.
  • Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, protected individual status, or eligibility for required U.S. State Department authorizations.
