Description

  • Architect and ship end-to-end production AI systems for clinical decision support, document understanding, and agentic medical companions.
  • Design agentic workflows using frontier LLMs and self-hosted models when appropriate.
  • Lead structured information extraction pipelines from clinical documents, including verification systems and human-in-the-loop review gates.
  • Build evaluation infrastructure with golden datasets, LLM-as-judge methods, regression tests, and online A/B evaluation.
  • Engineer systems for low latency and controlled cost through streaming, caching, prompt compression, model routing, and budget management.
  • Own production observability, including trace and span monitoring, prompt versioning, drift detection, cost tracking, replay debugging, and PHI-safe logging.
  • Operationalize models developed by the AI Scientist team, including serving, production evaluation, rollback, and feedback loops.
  • Partner with clinicians, data engineers, and research collaborators to translate clinical requirements into technical specifications and delivered systems.
  • Set technical direction for AI engineering, including architecture decisions, build-vs-buy decisions, and evaluation and observability standards.
  • Mentor PMs and engineers on applied AI best practices, prompt design, evaluation design, and model selection.
  • Raise engineering standards through code review, design docs, observability, and incident response.
  • Drive technical due diligence for AI/ML vendors, including BAA scope, PHI handling, sub-processor obligations, and IP terms.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience building and operating LLM-powered or production ML systems.
  • Strong Python skills and deep familiarity with at least one production backend framework such as FastAPI or Flask.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM orchestration, function/tool calling, and retrieval system design, including chunking, hybrid search, and reranking.
  • Working knowledge of a cloud data warehouse, with Snowflake strongly preferred.
  • Experience with modern data tooling such as dbt, Dagster, or Airflow.
  • A track record of designing evaluation systems for LLM applications.
  • Familiarity with LLM safety considerations, including guardrails and adversarial testing.
  • Practical understanding of HIPAA, BAAs, PHI handling, and working in a regulated environment.
  • Strong written communication skills for design docs, technical RFCs, and documentation.
  • Experience in healthcare, clinical informatics, or another regulated domain is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical ontologies and clinical data standards such as LOINC, SNOMED CT, ICD-10, RxNorm, FHIR, and HL7 is preferred.
  • Experience with self-hosted model serving tools such as vLLM, Triton, TGI, or SGLang is preferred.
  • Experience with inference optimization is preferred.
  • Multimodal experience with vision, structured data, or time-series data alongside text is preferred.
