Description

Lead the definition, development, and qualification of test solutions for optical engines across wafer, die, package, and system levels.
Design and implement optical test hardware and automation systems, including active alignment, fiber array attachment, and high-speed optical I/O characterization.
Develop test programs for photonic parameters such as insertion loss, eye diagrams, BER, PAM4 signaling, optical power, wavelength, thermal performance, and reliability stress.
Collaborate with silicon photonics, package engineering, product engineering, and manufacturing teams to improve design-for-test and manufacturability.
Drive yield improvement, failure analysis, and root-cause investigations for electro-optical failures in optical assemblies.
Correlate bench and lab validation results with ATE production test and system-level performance.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction on test architecture, equipment selection, and best practices.
Support qualification, reliability testing, and customer audits for optical products.
Evaluate and integrate new test technologies, instrumentation, and automation frameworks to scale optical production.
Contribute to roadmaps for next-generation optical test capabilities, including higher data rates, multi-wavelength systems, and advanced packaging.

Requirements

MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
8+ years of relevant experience in optical/photonic test engineering for Senior Staff level, or 12+ years for Principal level.
Strong background in optical, silicon photonics, or high-speed optical transceivers (800G/1.6T+).
Proven experience developing optical test solutions for wafer, package, or module-level testing in high-volume environments.
Deep expertise with optical test instrumentation such as optical spectrum analyzers, BER testers, oscilloscopes, tunable lasers, power meters, and fiber alignment systems.
Experience with automated test equipment (ATE), Python/LabVIEW/C# test development, and statistical process control (SPC).
Knowledge of PAM4 signaling, signal integrity, mixed-signal testing, and reliability standards for data center optics.
Hands-on experience with CPO-specific challenges such as active alignment, thermal management, laser integration, fiber attach, and co-packaged ASIC testing (preferred).
Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE 802.3, OIF, and CMIS, and experience working with hyperscalers or module vendors (preferred).
Experience in semiconductor foundry/OSAT ecosystems and transitioning products from NPI to high-volume production (preferred).
Track record of technical leadership, patents, or publications in photonics test (preferred).
Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills (preferred).

Benefits

Salary range of $175,000 to $215,000 depending on experience, level, and business need.
