Description

  • Design and implement AWS networking architecture including VPC design, subnets, route tables, security groups, and NACLs.
  • Configure Application Load Balancers with target groups, health checks, SSL/TLS termination, path-based routing, and WAF integration.
  • Design and implement network security controls for federal compliance, including network segmentation, encryption in transit, zero-trust principles, and NIST 800-53 alignment.
  • Design multi-AZ high-availability and zero-downtime deployment architectures, including DNS failover, automatic failover, and multi-region considerations.
  • Coordinate and configure secure multi-system connectivity using Transit Gateway, AWS PrivateLink, and VPC peering.
  • Implement container networking (service discovery, ingress controllers, network policies) and integrate with service mesh where required.
  • Implement and configure enterprise monitoring and observability platforms (Splunk, Dynatrace, DataDog), including dashboards, distributed tracing/APM, and SIEM integration.
  • Integrate AWS telemetry (CloudWatch, CloudTrail, VPC Flow Logs) with enterprise monitoring, configure audit logging and retention for compliance, and maintain monitoring baselines for anomaly detection.
  • Establish alerting design, escalation policies, incident response integration, and operational runbooks for troubleshooting, load balancer management, and monitoring response.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams, boundary protection documentation, data flow diagrams, IP addressing and routing documentation, and artifacts required for RMF/ATO security assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field (relevant certifications/experience may substitute).
  • 5–7 years of experience in network engineering, systems engineering, or DevOps roles.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience with AWS networking and load balancing in production environments.
  • 2+ years experience with enterprise monitoring platforms (Splunk, Dynatrace, DataDog, or similar).
  • Understanding of NIST 800-53 security controls for networking and monitoring and experience supporting RMF/ATO processes (preferred if prior involvement).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for network and performance issues, with attention to detail and security-first design.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to produce compliance and operational documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, manage concurrent networking and monitoring workstreams, and adapt to fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Preferred: AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty or Solutions Architect – Professional; Splunk Admin, Dynatrace Professional, or DataDog certification.
  • Preferred: experience with AWS WAF/Shield, service mesh technologies (Istio, AWS App Mesh), network automation (Terraform or CloudFormation), and federal/DoD contracting environments. Note: role may handle CUI and requires ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination; U.S. citizenship required.
