Description

  • Define and guide the architecture of internal developer tools and services, including AI-powered agents, coding assistants, and diagnostic tools.
  • Own and evolve the organisation’s agentic AI working practices across R&D, including standards for instructions, configurations, and interaction patterns.
  • Establish an agentic-first software development lifecycle framework covering code authoring, review, testing, documentation, and deployment.
  • Lead experimentation and evaluation of emerging AI and Generative AI capabilities and translate them into practical engineering standards.
  • Identify developer pain points across the development lifecycle and drive improvements to workflows and tooling.
  • Measure internal engineering productivity metrics such as build times and deployment cycle time and use them to guide continuous improvement.
  • Lead automation initiatives to streamline onboarding, reduce cognitive load, and remove development environment toil.
  • Define and uphold developer experience standards, documentation quality, and production readiness expectations for services.
  • Lead technical estimation, feasibility assessments, release planning support, and post-release reviews for DX initiatives.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, and collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and engineers to align technical direction with product strategy.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in Developer Relations, Developer Productivity, or building internal tooling on complex systems.
  • Proven experience using AI, machine learning, or generative AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Coder to improve developer workflows.
  • Extensive experience with AWS and distributed cloud architectures for building developer-facing services.
  • Proven experience measuring and optimising engineering efficiency metrics and reducing deployment friction.
  • Advanced proficiency with Terraform and configuration management tools for managing developer environments.
  • Strong scripting ability in Python, Go, or a similar language for automation and tooling.
  • Experience with PHP or another language, preferably in a significantly sized object-oriented codebase.
  • Deep experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog or equivalent.
  • Expert understanding of distributed systems and microservices, including resilience patterns for internal tools.
  • Hands-on experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.
  • Practical experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and drive team workstreams.

  • Salary of £90,000 to £100,000.
