Description

  • Define the mechanical architecture for Apollo’s torso, head, and arm assemblies.
  • Own the full upper-body lifecycle from architecture and design through integration and verification.
  • Lead trade-off studies balancing mass distribution, range of motion, and structural rigidity.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between Industrial Design and Engineering to translate design intent into functional A-surfaces.
  • Develop complex robotic mechanisms that withstand dynamic loads while supporting precise human-like manipulation.
  • Design the torso chassis to protect internal electronics from impact events using advanced materials and topology optimization.
  • Lead tight-space integration of compute, battery, and perception sensor subsystems within the torso and head.
  • Architect wire harness routing through high-flex joints to support reliability and signal integrity.
  • Define and execute the design verification test plan, including environmental, vibration, and lifecycle testing.
  • Conduct deep-dive design reviews, mentor engineers, and help establish standards for high-performance robotic design.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and at least 8 years of experience in mechanical design of complex robotic systems.
  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and align cross-functional stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Class-A surfaces and complex geometries.
  • Experience using surfacing tools in SolidWorks, NX, and Catia.
  • Proven track record of designing multi-axis robotic arms or high-DOF dynamic mechanisms.
  • Exceptional tight-space integration skills, with ruggedized electronics packaging experience preferred.
  • Experience with ruggedized electronics packaging or automotive/aerospace interiors is a plus.
  • Ability to perform mechanical design work involving high-performance robotic systems and packaging constraints.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of desk-based computer work, occasional lifting up to 15 pounds, and communication/vision demands.
