Description

  • Lead the design and development of scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems using Python and cloud-native patterns.
  • Apply spec-driven development practices to translate backlog input into detailed implementation requirements for coding agents.
  • Coordinate teams of coding agents to deliver engineering requirements.
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs for frontend, mobile, and third-party integrations.
  • Architect and deliver AI-powered backend solutions, including RAG pipelines, vector stores, and LLM integrations.
  • Develop and maintain systems on Google Cloud Platform, including Vertex AI and Google Gen AI APIs.
  • Use Agent Development Kits such as Google ADK to design and implement agent-based systems.
  • Ensure backend systems are observable, reliable, and debuggable in production.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals and delivery timelines.
  • Mentor engineers and communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including clients.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with Python 3 for backend development.
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Proven experience with spec-driven development.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as Copilot or Claude Code.
  • Strong prompt engineering skills.
  • Experience working with LLMs such as Gemini 3, Claude Opus, or GPT-4.x/5.x.
  • Experience implementing vector stores and RAG architectures.
  • Experience with Agent Development Kits such as Google ADK.
  • Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Vertex AI and Google Gen AI APIs.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong system design fundamentals, including queues, caching strategies, database schema design, and API design.
  • Experience designing AI agents, agent task planning, reasoning patterns, and agent observability/debugging.
  • Ability to clearly communicate goals, constraints, and context for agentic systems and refine behavior based on outcomes.
  • Comfort working across the full stack; experience with TypeScript and modern JavaScript is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively with fully remote, distributed teams.
  • Experience in a consultancy, agency, or professional services environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced delivery environment.
  • Experience with BMAD Method or similar spec-driven development frameworks is a plus.
  • Familiarity with layered and distributed architectures is a plus.
  • Experience with Terraform is a plus.
  • Experience with additional backend languages is a plus.
  • Experience with gRPC or other communication patterns is a plus.
  • Experience with eCommerce platforms or complex integrations is a plus.

Benefits

  • Salary range of CAD $170,000 to $220,000 per year.
