Description

  • Own and drive the mechanical design of a new air vehicle from initial concept through low-rate production.
  • Lead technical efforts to define requirements, propose solutions, and establish methods for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, software, and mechanical disciplines to deliver a reliable, flexible, and cost-effective system.
  • Lead design reviews, perform analysis, visit vendors, and develop prototype and hardware test plans.
  • Support integration of subsystems across Omen and ensure overall system performance meets required specifications and standards.
  • Contribute to the improvement of team tools, templates, processes, and standards.
  • Balance subsystem operational needs while optimizing for development speed, mass, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed.
  • Travel to test sites and vendors as needed.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in a technical engineering role in a professional setting.
  • Experience in an immersive technical project, such as a collegiate project team or professional equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of core engineering principles, composite materials mechanics, design, analysis, testing, and fabrication.
  • Deep understanding of load paths, design practices, and hand calculations for structurally efficient assemblies.
  • Strong CAD proficiency, with NX preferred, including complex fixturing and tooling design.
  • Hands-on experience supporting assembly fixturing and tooling through design, procurement, build, and implementation.
  • Experience with high-performance airframe manufacturing and assembly processes, including composite and metallic part machining, locating, fixturing, fastening, joining, fuel sealing, and integration.
  • BS or MS in mechanical engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on fabrication skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with NX/Teamcenter (preferred).
  • Experience with clean-sheet aircraft configuration (preferred).
  • Broad experience leading tooling and manufacturing of composite and metallic airframes and parts (preferred).
  • Experience with systems integration during airframe assembly (preferred).
  • Experience with metrology verification methods and equipment for aircraft assembly fixturing and part fabrication (preferred).
  • Passion for aviation, aerospace, or unmanned systems demonstrated through hands-on projects, certifications, or hobbies (preferred).
  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills (preferred).
  • Familiarity with structural development testing (preferred).
  • Experience with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly, or similar projects (preferred).
