Description

  • Perform first-order thermal assessments using hand calculations, spreadsheets, and MATLAB/Python models to guide early design decisions.
  • Develop detailed CFD models and simulations to predict temperatures, heat transfer, and fluid characteristics.
  • Generate, maintain, and correlate integrated FEMs for imaging platforms.
  • Perform test-model correlation testing to validate analytical predictions.
  • Work with environmental test engineers to support test design, instrumentation selection, execution, and data processing.
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to internal teams, management, and external customers.
  • Stay current with advancements in thermal analysis techniques, materials technology, and industry standards.
  • Support thermal design across hardware development programs from conceptualization through production.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or holding an MS or higher degree in engineering or applied physics with a focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • 7+ years of experience in a thermal analysis or thermo-physics analysis role.
  • Experience with thermal FEA tools such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, Icepak, or Flotherm.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB or Python, or equivalent, for analytical modeling, data acquisition, and post-processing.
  • Experience with test-model correlation and test-based characterization of critical modeling input parameters.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams and key stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, results-oriented, and able to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • General knowledge of climatic and/or dynamic testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition fundamentals.
  • Ability to operate chambers, DAQs, and other major test apparatus is preferred.
  • CAD skills and ability to create high-quality engineering drawings that meet common industry standards are preferred.
  • Experience on an immersive interdisciplinary technical project is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of MIL-STD-810 or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience with EO/IR sensors and structural, thermal, optical performance (STOP) analysis is relevant to the role.
