Description

  • Own and drive the mechanical design of a new air vehicle from initial concept through low-rate production.
  • Define requirements, propose solutions, and establish methods for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems.
  • Partner with electrical and software teams to deliver a reliable, flexible, and cost-effective integrated system.
  • Lead design reviews, perform analysis, visit vendors, and develop prototype hardware test plans.
  • Support integration of multiple subsystems and ensure overall system performance meets specifications and standards.
  • Contribute to the improvement of team tools, templates, processes, and standards.
  • Balance subsystem needs while optimizing for development speed, mass, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Support customer hardware demonstrations as needed.
  • Travel to test sites and vendors as needed.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in a technical engineering role in a professional setting.
  • Experience in an immersive technical project in either a collegiate or professional environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles, composite materials, design, analysis, testing, and fabrication.
  • Deep understanding of load paths, design practices, and hand calculations for structurally efficient assemblies.
  • Proficiency in CAD software; NX is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience supporting the full lifecycle of assembly fixturing and tooling development, including design, procurement, build, and implementation.
  • Experience with high-performance airframe manufacturing and assembly processes for composite and metallic parts.
  • BS or MS in mechanical engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on fabrication skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with NX/Teamcenter is preferred.
  • Experience with clean-sheet aircraft configuration is preferred.
  • Experience leading tooling and manufacturing of composite and metallic airframes and parts is preferred.
  • Experience with systems integration during airframe assembly is preferred.
  • Experience with metrology verification methods and equipment for aircraft assembly fixturing and part fabrication is preferred.
  • Experience running structural development testing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion for aviation, aerospace, or unmanned systems through hands-on projects, certifications, or hobbies is preferred.
  • Experience with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly, or similar projects is preferred.
