Description

  • Work closely with development and test engineers to build and test new optical systems for airborne, maritime, and space platforms.
  • Fabricate and assemble high-quality, high-reliability electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Develop and implement integration and test fixtures and operate test equipment to monitor and report results.
  • Own internal prototyping resources, including mechanical and electrical fabrication equipment.
  • Manage the R&D space from a facilities and organizational standpoint.
  • Travel to external laboratories and test sites as needed.
  • Support rapid prototyping from evaluation and material ordering through execution and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a technician working on complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to work through R&D tasks with limited oversight.
  • Experience building and troubleshooting cables and wiring harnesses.
  • Comfort with soldering, crimping, and assembling cables and connectors.
  • Basic electrical understanding, including voltage drop, wire sizing based on amperage, and Ohm's Law.
  • Ability to take ownership of the entire rapid prototyping process from start to finish.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with alignment and characterization of optical systems (preferred).
  • Experience with 3D printing for prototyping (preferred).
  • Experience operating manual machine tools such as milling machines and lathes (preferred).
  • Experience with test and measurement equipment such as Instron, CMM, and optical comparators (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Mechanical and Electrical software tools such as Solidworks and Altium, and scripting/automation languages such as Matlab, Python, and Labview (preferred).
