Description

  • Optimize pricing models to reduce infrastructure costs while maintaining or improving accuracy, especially for high-value assets.
  • Iterate on the underwriting model to maximize cash advance disbursements while staying within target risk thresholds and default rates.
  • Lead the full machine learning lifecycle from model training and feature generation through production deployment and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Expert Pricers to build domain expertise in the trading card market and inform model improvements.
  • Design and execute experiments and backtesting to validate new features and improve predictive power and coverage.
  • Own the AWS infrastructure for the models, including capacity planning, auto-scaling, and troubleshooting performance issues.
  • Write and maintain pricing APIs so models can serve at scale with low latency.
  • Build monitoring and observability to detect model drift or degradation before it affects customers.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years building and shipping production ML/AI models.
  • Deep proficiency in production-grade Python and SQL.
  • Experience building custom feature-engineering pipelines, including time-decay weighting, leakage-safe k-fold cross-validation, and cascading fallback/imputation logic.
  • Experience training and validating gradient-boosted or ensemble estimators against strict accuracy and error tolerances.
  • Experience with segment-specific model tuning by category or asset type.
  • Experience leveraging LLMs, foundation models, and AI development tools for internal tooling and user-facing product use cases in production.
  • Experience with MLflow or a comparable tool for experiment tracking and model registry/versioning.
  • Comfort with owning production model-serving infrastructure on AWS, including capacity planning and diagnosing memory or timeout failures at scale.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, production workflow orchestration, and infrastructure as code for cloud provisioning and changes.
  • Pragmatic, incremental approach focused on delivering value rather than pursuing perfection.
  • Experience with real-time or low-latency model serving at scale (preferred).
  • Previous startup experience in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment (preferred).
  • Interest in or knowledge of trading cards, collectibles, or alternative asset markets (preferred).
