Description

  • Map BM units to power plants, substations, and fuel types using Elexon data, public registers, and manual research.
  • Map substations to ETYS zones and grid supply points.
  • Build and maintain master reference datasets that link identifiers across Elexon, National Grid ESO, TEC register, and other sources.
  • Document mappings, assumptions, and known limitations for downstream users.
  • Reconcile legacy data formats with current schemas and granularities.
  • Investigate and resolve inconsistencies between Elexon message types such as BOALF, BOD, and DISBSAD.
  • Determine authoritative values when data sources conflict or disagree.
  • Clean time-series data by identifying outliers, filling gaps, and resolving overlaps or duplicate timestamps.
  • Develop reusable Python-based data cleaning routines for repeated use across datasets.
  • Write and maintain Python data grabbers, build dbt models, orchestrate workflows with GitHub Actions, and design PostgreSQL schemas.

Requirements

  • Strong Python skills for data work, including pandas and clean, testable, reusable code.
  • Solid SQL skills, including complex queries, window functions, and CTEs in PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with messy, real-world data such as reconciliation, cleaning, or mapping work.
  • Methodical and detail-oriented approach to spotting inconsistencies and root causes.
  • Good documentation habits for mappings, assumptions, and decisions.
  • Self-directed ability to investigate ambiguous problems and communicate findings clearly.
  • Experience with energy, utilities, or market data is a plus.
  • Familiarity with UK energy markets, Elexon data, or grid operations is preferred.
  • dbt experience for transformation pipelines is preferred.
  • Exposure to time-series data issues such as irregular timestamps, gaps, and restatements is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with at least 2 agentic AI coding systems such as Claude Code, Codex, Open Code, or Cursor.
  • Experience building software end-to-end with agentic coding tools, including multi-agent orchestration, hooks, permissions, MCP servers, custom skills, and context management.
