Description

  • Work with large-scale structured and unstructured data to build and improve foundation models for Airbnb product, business, and operational use cases.
  • Create a multi-year technical roadmap to keep the team aligned with rapidly evolving AI technologies and customer needs.
  • Evaluate current and upcoming foundation models to select and refine the best-performing options.
  • Prototype, develop, and productionize LLM models and pipelines for batch and real-time use cases at scale.
  • Drive key AI architecture decisions for products and contribute to Airbnb’s ML platform architecture and strategy.
  • Partner with product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and operations teams to design and develop AI products.
  • Fine-tune state-of-the-art LLMs for diverse use cases and optimize them for high-performance deployment.
  • Develop and enhance AI models, ML services, and tools for customer support AI initiatives.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, AI, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience developing machine learning models and products at scale from inception to business impact.
  • Programming experience in Python and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Proven experience training, fine-tuning, optimizing models, and improving inference runtime.
  • Experience with post-training areas such as data processing for fine-tuning, responsible LLMs, LLM alignment, reinforcement learning, efficient training and inference, language model evaluation, or multilingual and multimodal modeling.
  • Experience with runtime optimizations, model quantization, compression, on-device inference, GPU inference, PyTorch, or kernel development.
  • Publications at peer-reviewed AI conferences such as NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, or ACL preferred.
  • Experience with AI technologies in customer support applications preferred.
  • Experience taking AI products from incubation to production at scale using agile practices preferred.
  • Experience deploying and scaling business-critical AI services and defining ML infrastructure requirements preferred.

Benefits

  • Base pay range of $292,000 to $365,000 USD.
  • Potential eligibility for bonus.

  • US remote-eligible position.
  • Occasional office or offsite work may be required by agreement with the manager.
