Description

  • Own critical BI and database infrastructure end to end, including architecture, performance, reliability, and security.
  • Design and evolve the BI data warehouse architecture across SQL Server DW, Vertica, StarRocks, and related services.
  • Lead migration and modernization efforts, including moving workloads off MSSQL DW and decommissioning legacy components.
  • Define and implement data and query engine standards for indexing, partitioning, materialized views, retention, governance, and access patterns.
  • Set and maintain SLIs/SLOs for key BI services, ensuring they are instrumented, monitored, and reviewed regularly.
  • Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and follow-up improvements for BI infrastructure-owned platforms.
  • Partner with BI, database, infra, and product teams to improve end-to-end reliability from ingestion through visualization.
  • Perform deep query and workload tuning to reduce resource usage and improve latency for high-impact analytics systems.
  • Own upgrade, patching, and rollback strategies for database and BI stacks to minimize downtime.
  • Improve CI/CD, deployment automation, observability, secure access patterns, and compliance for BI platform services.
  • Mentor junior engineers, contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing, and help shape the technical roadmap.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, database engineering, DBA, or platform engineering, with several years owning production OLAP/BI databases at scale.
  • Strong expertise with StarRocks or similar modern MPP/columnar systems such as Vertica, ClickHouse, Presto/Trino, Druid, Doris, or Impala.
  • Solid SQL Server experience, including query execution internals, tuning, capacity planning, storage layout, and backup/restore.
  • Proven experience operating mission-critical database or BI services in production, including on-call incident response and post-mortem analysis.
  • Experience designing and maintaining SLIs/SLOs, dashboards, and alerting for latency, availability, and error budgets.
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse and ETL concepts, including fact-dimension modeling, replication/CDC, staging, freshness, consistency, and data quality processes.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux and Windows in production environments, including patching, hardening, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and CI/CD using GitLab CI, Ansible/AWX, ArgoCD, or similar tools.
  • Git-based workflows for database objects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to serve as a technical point of contact in cross-team discussions at IC4 level.
  • Experience with StarRocks or similar OLAP engines, including schema and materialized view design for BI workloads, is preferred.
  • Experience operating clusters across multiple environments, including DR, performance testing, capacity testing, and cost tuning, is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Superset, Metabase, Tableau, or Power BI Report Server is preferred.
  • Exposure to Hadoop or data lakehouse ecosystems such as Impala, Spark, and Hive, and workload migration strategies, is preferred.
  • Experience with observability stacks, SRE practices, and AI/LLM-based tools for log analysis or auto-remediation is a strong plus.
  • Prior technical leadership at IC4 level or equivalent, driving multi-quarter cross-team projects, is preferred.
