Description

  • Define and grow the logic, token strategy, and governance of Affirm’s Design System.
  • Lead the refinement and scaling of the system’s visual language with a focus on clarity, performance, and craft.
  • Ensure cross-platform parity across Web, iOS, and Android while preserving native patterns and Affirm’s brand identity.
  • Author, maintain, and improve documentation and usage guidelines that serve as the system’s source of truth.
  • Act as a primary translator between Design and Engineering on component APIs and token implementation.
  • Host office hours, run workshops, and mentor designers on systems thinking.
  • Analyze the efficiency and user impact of design system components and define how ROI is measured.
  • Champion accessibility standards and ensure WCAG 2.1 AA+ compliance is built into system components.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product design experience, with significant time focused on Design Systems at a large-scale technology company.
  • Advanced Figma expertise, including Auto-layout, Component Properties, Variables, and library management.
  • Experience architecting design token strategies and semantic naming conventions that bridge design and code.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS/SASS, and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and React Native.
  • Strong familiarity with Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Google Material Design.
  • Experience establishing contribution models and governance workflows for design systems.
  • Exceptional visual design and information architecture skills, with strong attention to typography, spacing, color theory, and micro-interactions.
  • Deep knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and assistive technologies.
  • Ability to self-direct, prioritize, and communicate clearly in shifting environments.
  • Nice to have: experience with documentation platforms such as Storybook, Zeroheight, or Supernova.
  • Nice to have: experience in fintech, consumer finance, or other regulated industries.
  • Nice to have: experience with motion design tools such as Lottie or Rive.
  • Nice to have: experience writing automation scripts or plugins for Figma.
