Description

  • Own and deliver quarterly team goals while guiding engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems.
  • Design and implement backend services and APIs in Python or Kotlin within a microservice and event-driven architecture.
  • Shape the team roadmap, collaborate on technical design, and drive execution across multi-team projects.
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager and teammates to improve quality standards and engineering processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with Fraud Ops, Compliance, Product, Machine Learning, and Analytics to build fraud tooling and infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and architecture, and lead efforts to address them.
  • Maintain strong observability practices, respond to incidents, and participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Mentor teammates, provide feedback, and promote ownership, inclusion, and craftsmanship.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Experience with distributed systems and infrastructure using AWS, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Strong system design skills and a track record of delivering maintainable, extensible services.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working in data-rich environments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and safe production deployments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in distributed teams.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with a focus on learning and team success.
  • Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, or Chronosphere is preferred.
  • Background in fraud prevention, risk systems, or post-transaction tooling is preferred.
  • Experience in fintech or other highly regulated environments with understanding of risk, compliance, and operational constraints is preferred.
  • Must be based in Spain for this role.
  • On-call rotation is required.
